Polynesian pathways to a future without electricity grids
Our overall research question is: what are the implications of feasible developments in distributed generation to those Polynesian countries that currently have extensive electricity grids in place?
The first phase of the research will query whether distributed solar electricity is a practical alternative to grid-based electricity (and if not now, then what needs to happen for it to become practical)
- To understand the potential effects of developments in solar power, batteries and other renewable energy sources on existing electricity grids in Polynesia.
- To develop a practical, “no regrets” framework for decision-making.
- To contribute to local decision-making capacity in Polynesia to implement a transition.
